Tuesday: Happy Monday and welcome back! Hoping you all had a great holiday! The kids are in awe today with the Christmas Tree, Village and Lights up throughout the house! Of course, we added Christmas music to our morning play time, too!🎄 We counted all the way to 30 for calendar and we were happy to put SUNNY on the weather chart after last week! We were busy with projects today, as we played catch up from our break. We made ice skates, talked about our families and drew a picture of them and we did our November Certificates! We learned so much in November (Gg Hh Ii, 7 and 8, Black and Brown and our shape, Rectangle)! After all of our projects, we played inside for a little bit before heading outside to play (and freeze)! We had a friend reach out and encourage us to participate in the Grab and Go meals to keep the funding coming, so Harrison and Tori drove in and picked up the meals after they were done with classes. Since it was after 12 and we still had to cook the food, we just had PB and J sandwiches today, but they picked up a week’s worth of meals, so we are set for the rest of the week. These come with breakfast, so I’ll be sending home 5 breakfasts for each kiddo today~ENJOY! The kids were excited to see some of the breakfast foods-apparently they gave REALLY GOOD breakfast foods for this week!😜. Have a great afternoon and we’ll see everyone later today!

Wishing everyone a Happy and Healthy Thanksgiving! It was STONE SOUP DAY, and we wasted no time getting started! As kids arrived, they tossed their items into the soup pot and we stirred and cooked the soup all morning long. We also made pumpkin bars to have as our dessert for our special feast. Before the school agers arrived, we completed our calendar and circle time and worked on the Letter Ii, we added a page to our scrapbook and also traced sight words (I , if and is) and we glued and colored a picture of an igloo with a penguin. When everyone arrived, we celebrated Charleigh turning 6 this upcoming Saturday with a sweet treat of donuts! After some free play inside, we darkened the room and watched a movie (THE NUT JOB). I had planned FREE BIRDS, but my tech support was in online class and I couldn’t get the movie to load. After the movie, it was time to feast! I’ll let the pictures fill you in! Happy Thanksgiving everyone and thank you for another success STONE SOUP DAY!
STONE SOUP DAY IS TOMORROW! If you haven’t brought in your items, please do so right away tomorrow morning. Even though we could have easily gone outside to play today, we were so busy inside, we didn’t have time! Maybe this afternoon! After free play, we started our day talking about being thankful. We named things we are thankful for and we shared the story of the First Thanksgiving. We even sang a new song, I AM THANKFUL. We also read two different versions of the book, STONE SOUP. For our project, we made Thankful Headbands and colored and glued them together. Each feather in their hate has something they are thankful for on it. It was cute to hear them say what they are thankful for. 🥰 Next, we did an online book and listened to GIRAFFE’S CAN’T DANCE. Next, Stone Soup prepping began. We used some cool kitchen appliances and prepped our apples, first. We made homemade applesauce so that we can have it with our soup, tomorrow. Next, we snapped green beans, peeled and cut potatoes, peeled and cut onions and peeled and cut carrots. Everyone helped cut (with assistance) except for Charleigh and Corbin, they were the BIG kids, so they were able to use our “learning knives” and cut things on their own. Tomorrow morning, we’ll start putting everything in the pot together and cook our soup all morning long for our lunchtime feast! We’ll make our pumpkin bars either this afternoon or tomorrow morning-yum yum, for tomorrow’s dessert. For lunch, we ate Salisbury Steak, green beans and bananas. After quiet book time, I read SURPRISE! Ask the kids who through a surprise welcome party and how it turned out! 🐻🦝🐿 Enjoy your afternoon, I think mine will be quiet-lots of tired eyes this morning!

Bring your STONE SOUP items in on Monday! Don’t forget to bring a STONE for each child! Happy Friday! We had an extra small group today, only Emery, Ellie and Benny! We made the most of it and enjoyed the quieter house! Our focus today was Full and Empty. We worked together on several pictures to decide if something was full or empty. For our project, we teamed up and decided what was full and what was empty. We also traced the words FULL and EMPTY and then we filled a cookie jar FULL of cookies! Once we were done with project time, we listened to GOODNIGHT ZOO online and then we took our zoo outside to play! We had cars racing down the slide, boxes full of leaves and a full restaurant serving eggs and hot dogs! Busy, busy, busy! For lunch, we had rib patties, corn and sliced apples. After clean up and quiet time, I read. NOT YOUR NEST! and RED KNIT CAP GIRL AND THE RESCUE! Ask the kids who Red Knit Cap Girl rescued and how she helped get them home. Enjoy the weekend ahead and we’ll see everyone on Monday so we can prep our Stone Soup!
Bring your Stone Soup items by Monday. We wasted absolutely no time getting our work done for the day so we could get outside to play! We are absolutely LOVING this weather! For the beginning of our day, we only had the little girls. So they were champs at doing Calendar and Circle Time without the help from the older boys. We focused on the Number 8 and made figure 8s with our hands in the air. We also counted to 8 in Spanish. For our project, we did our 8 page for our scrapbook, traced more 8s and colored 8 hats. We also did a Dot to Dot that went to the number 8. We ended up making a fish, so we colored it in. Next, Benny came and then it was time to head outside. Charleigh and Corbin came next and it was amazing to be outside without coats on again! We loved it and didn’t want to go back inside for lunch. Our stomachs finally won the battle and we went inside to eat chicken nuggets, peas and pears. After quiet book time, I read I’M MY OWN DOG and we talked about our own pets. Charleigh and Corbin are headed back outside while the littles nap for a couple of hours. If you get a chance and are interested in the big ELY LIBRARY DESIGN, the design team we hired is doing a Spark Session all day long. You can find the zoom link on the library FB page or you can visit www.fehdesignsparks.com and click on LIVE SPARKS and then click on ELY (they are updating this site all day long with sketches and design thoughts/locations for the library). It’s such an exciting time for our library!
Outdoor Time is GREAT for fresh air, sunshine and burning off wiggles! Please make sure your child has a coat, hat and mittens every day! (Even with predicted warmer temps today, that wind is fierce and it only felt like 34° when we went outside to play)💨 H is for hippopotamus (try teaching that word to 2 and 3 year olds!) We added another “sunny” to the weather chart and reviewed our shape, rectangle. For Show and Tell, we had several very creative items! I love how the kids search for their shapes and colors! Awesome job! We talked all about hippos and that in Africa, they are known to be one of the most dangerous animals! 🦛 The kids colored and glued their hippo and added marshmallow teeth and grey felt for the skin. The kids were busy building with trio blocks while we waited for our school age friends to arrive. Once they were all here, outside to play! We had an outdoor kitchen and restaurant, the older kids added on to their fort with BIG branches from all over the yard and the glider was used a lot, too! Fresh air is best! For lunch, we had homemade waffles, orange smiles and yogurt. After clean up and quiet time, it was story time. I read, WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM MY FRIENDS and then the discussion of the music from the Beatles began (since this book was written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney). With that said, our music lesson began...and the kids thought I was crazy! We listened to a few songs by The Beatles and then they even got to watch a video of them in 1964, and since it was in black and white, it was SUPER old!🤣
Show and Tell is TOMORROW! The theme is RECTANGLE. Free play started with tools, waffle blocks and wooden blocks (and Christmas music...just because I love Christmas music)!🎄 Once Harrison and Tori started their online work, we cleaned up and focused on Calendar and Circle Time. Today, we focused on the letter Hh. None of us had an H in our names, but we know a few people that do (Harrison, Heath, Harper and Graham). We practiced making Hh’s and write H sight words, too. We also made a cute little hummingbird. We sand the song, FIVE LITTLE HUMMINGBIRDS, too. After our project, we listened to an online story (PETE THE CAT and then we bundled up and went outside to play! With our pumpkin drop off, we also gathered gourds and corn, so I let the kids explore with some of them and a mallet-smashing things is always fun! They were pretty grossed out by the insides of the gourds! We had relay races, raked and jumped in leaves and took a walk to the stand to feed the animals pumpkins and get the mail. Everyone was ready to come inside after about 45 minutes (too cold for a few), so we went inside and played with dress up, tiny stuffies and the cars. For lunch, we ate fish sticks, mixed veggies and sliced apples. Before naptime, I read THE PLUMP AND PERKY TURKEY and WHAT IS THANKSGIVING?
It’s Virtual Learning week! We (daycare group) are working on our project right away, so that we can hopefully have our project done by the time our school agers arrive (they are staying home to complete their online time before coming to daycare). Flexibility with our daily routine-necessary! 😉 It’s almost Turkey Time, so that is what we focused on today! We did the Turkey Pokey during Circle Time, talked about what colors turkeys are, what sound they make and if we had ever seen a wild turkey. For our project, we made Rectangle Turkeys-so cute! After our project time, we listened to two online books (DO UNTO OTHERS and TOO MANY TOYS). As soon as we finished, Charleighand Corbin arrived and it was outside to play! Raking leaves was the thing to do! The kids made a huge pile at the end of the slide to slide into-so many giggles! After about 30 minutes outside, the girls were saying they were cold and the boys were still going full speed ahead, so we did splitsville. The girls went in and washed up and pulled out the tiny stuffed animals and the magnetic dress up girls-they (along with Tiggy) had a blast! The boys stayed outside and raked a new (and bigger) pile of leaves. Lunch was Beefy Macaroni, green beans and peaches. After clean up and quiet book time (which Corbin gathered the littles together and read to them), I then read NO MATTER WHAT and HOW TO FIND A FOX. We also listened to what a fox sounds like at night. We wrapped up story time with two songs, FIVE LITTLE TURKEYS and BABY SHARK THANKSGIVING! The littles are down napping and the bugs are busy building a race track and playing house. Enjoy your Monday!
